Free Entry This Week At Most South African National Parks

If you’re South African and love national parks, this is the week to get out and visit — because most of them are offering free entry.

For the 12th year in a row, South African National Parks (SANParks) is allowing SA residents free entry to most parks in the 21-park network, with only a few exceptions.

SANParks’ goal is to help locals familiarize themselves with their culture and heritage, and to draw attention to conservation issues in the country.

It’s expected that over 100,000 visitors per day will take advantage of the promotion and visit participating parks.

The free entry program does not include free access to accommodation facilities or other tourist activities.

To enter, visitors need to present an official, green bar-coded ID card, or smart South African ID. Children under the age of 16 do not need to show ID.
