Chobe Under Canvas

Did you think that when we suggested camping, we’d meant you’d sleep in sleeping bags on the ground? Luckily, safari camp throughout the region is big on “glamping” where camping meets posh. Campsites like Chobe Under Canvas have glamorous tents that are fully furnished with cozy beds and chairs. The campsite is specifically located for campers to enjoy the herds of elephants that are known to hang around near Chobe River. As night falls, guests particularly enjoy gathering around the fire to watch their meals roasting under the stars. The campsite also offers hot water bucket showers, boat cruises and safari rides.

Saile Tented Camp is an exclusive campsite with only eight bedded tents available at a time, giving guests a more intimate feel with their safari guides and hosts. Nestled by the river of Linyanti Marsh, the site draws wildlife of various species, making this a wonderful destination to see so much from the comfort of your tents. The campsite is made to make guests feel like they’re camping in the old days, with Hemingway-esque Meru East African tents and colonial-style furniture.

Linyanti Ebony

Imagine a campsite that feels more like a resort and you have Linyanti Ebony. The campsite has luxurious tents scattered around a romantic patio full of lounge chairs, dimly-lit lanterns and a pool overlooking the Linyanti River. Campers are permitted to go fishing along the river in boats between safari trips on the campsite’s own 4×4 jeeps. This place is ideal for guests who love to stay active (and with a touch of luxury).

Located in the Savuti Marsh of Chobe National Park, Camp Savuti is another glitzy spot to immerse yourself in wildlife and nature. It’s common to witness mass migration of zebras from this camp and the destination is so isolated that most guests travel by plane to get there. What makes this campsite exciting is that it isn’t fenced in, and curious species can get close to the sites. Guests can spend their days lounging in their comfy chairs and admiring the nearby wildlife without trekking far. Safari jeep rides are also available onsite as well as outdoor hot showers and a flush-able toilet.

Elephant Valley Lodge

There’s a reason the campsite earned its name. It’s because (that’s right) of the herds of elephants you’ll find roaming nearby. Elephant Valley Lodge is outfitted with its own pool where guests can float belly up with the grazing elephants in the backdrop. The accommodations are “forest tents” that have everything including hot water baths, a working toilet, air conditioning and electric blankets for the winter. Amenities include boat rides and safari trips, but since the campsite is situated so close to Zimbabwe, day trips to Victoria Falls are also available on certain dates for guests.
