WestFoster Harbour is a restaurant and luxury serviced apartment complex on the Ikoyi bank of the lagoon. It is located on Queens Drive, which was once one of the grandest addresses in Ikoyi, and is still home to a number of embassies. It has lost some of its colonial grandeur in latter years, but there is a stretch of park that still offers some green shaded space and respite from the frantic development elsewhere in Lagos.

The Harbour retains some of this Colonial grandeur with large Victorian-style rooms with high ceilings complementing the hardwood or marble floors, and ornate chandeliers. Contemporary African art (from Nike Davies Okundaye’s excellent gallery) hangs on the walls — the Eyo masqueraders are particularly striking. There is a sophisticated air here, and it has played host to famous visitors such as Lionel Richie, R Kelly and Dominique de Villepin.

The food is not quite as sophisticated, tending to fall back on favourites like chicken wings (N1800) and prawn cocktails (N3000) whilst mains are either Nigerian classics like peppered chicken, or Western dishes like steak, jumbo prawns or barracuda. All are around N4-5000.

The real star of the show is the location, set as it is on the banks of the lagoon looking across to Victoria Island. At the weekends there are parties from Friday to Sunday; the well-heeled crowd take to the balconies and outdoor pool to feel the breeze and let their hair down. It’s a good spot to network with the veritable who’s-who of Lagos. As you would expect in a venue of this nature, staff are discreet and polite.
