Signal is the main restaurant at the upscale Cape Grace Hotel. The location is really stunning, right on the water. The hotel itself is located on a pier that juts out into the water. On one side is a working harbor and on the other is the yacht marina. From your table in the Signal restaurant, you can look out of the beautiful yachts to the rest of the waterfront. The dining room is beautifully decorated in warm brown wood with monochromatic brown décor and huge crystal chandeliers.
I stopped by to give the restaurant a try for a Friday lunch. Parking at the waterfront is always a bit difficult, but if you tell the guards you’re eating at Signal, you can park right in front of the hotel in reserved parking. The lunch menu has light and interesting small meals, salads, traditional favorites, and sandwiches. I sampled the smoked paprika squid with hand cut fries and saffron sofrito. The presentation was great and the flavors were really good except that the squid was possibly a bit over cooked. For dessert, I tried a cappuccino and the very interesting sounding baked orange cheesecake with macadamia nut butter, dulcey cremeux, and apricot sorbet. Dessert was really elegant and tasty.
The Cape Grace is also known for its afternoon tea service next door to the restaurant in the library. I peaked in to see what it was all about. The spread was much smaller than that on offer at the famous afternoon tea at the Mount Nelson, but it still looked pretty good and like a fun way to spend an afternoon at the Cape Grace.
Overall, the restaurant was quiet and relaxing and would be great for a business lunch. For a hotel restaurant, it feels very unique and upscale, so it’s definitely worth a try if you’re staying at the hotel. If not, visiting the restaurant is also a good way to see that side of the Waterfront with easy parking.
