Based in the lobby of the Ibis hotel in Ikeja, this recently opened spot could quite happily be transplanted to the streets of London or L.A. without drawing attention. Styling is cool and minimal, with hardwood floors red leather and chrome chairs and open plan tiled kitchen. The food inspired mural on the back wall is a nice touch adding colour and vibrancy.
Menu-wise diners can choose between local dishes from the “Nigerian corner”: fried fish stew, plantains and beans, or lamb stew with jollof. Western options include a “create your own menu” system: from the grill pick beef, kebabs, prawns or chicken, then add garnishes like fries, fresh veg, mash or rice alongside the sauce of your choice. The pasta menu operates on much the same basis: pick your pasta, sauce, and topping.
It’s generally everything you would expect from an Ibis, be it here or closer to home: reasonably priced, not overly elaborate and satisfying. It’s much better to dine here rather than spend time and money in a potentially fruitless search to find something better; choices overall in Ikeja are a little limited, and include either hotel restaurants or the New China Restaurant. (See review elsewhere on this site). There are numerous fast food establishments or local ‘food is ready’/chophouses, great experience as these may be they aren’t conducive to business or quiet conversation, so Oopen offers a decent compromise.
