If you want a great option for well done, authentic Nigerian food, this is the place. Nkoyo is actually in Nigeria’s version of a strip mall on the third floor of a complex called K-City in Wuse II. Turning off Aminu Kano Crescent, the restaurant is almost immediately above you on the right.

Nkoyo specializes in higher-end Nigerian fare. The main portion of the menu is made up of Nigerian specials including traditional soups such as water and pumpkin leaf, bean porridge, smoked fish. The grill has more of a continental spin, with both traditional dishes such as suya and more general fare such as lamb chops. Most soups on the menu are less than N 2,000 while adding a protein will tack another N 1,000 onto the meal. The grilled king prawns, the most expensive offering, rings in at N 3,750.

Additionally, all meals come with a light appetizer of handmade plantain chips and a small dish of chili sauce or guacamole. There is a modest alcohol selection typical of most regional restaurants, with a few local beers and low level liquors available. At the end of the meal, a nice digistif of frozen lemon and sugar is also a nice touch.

Despite being in a strip mall, the dining room at Nkoyo is nicely decorated, with lime green painted walls, colorfully painted metal trusses and a bamboo-lined ceiling. That same bamboo encircles the open kitchen and bar at the back of the restaurant. There is room for 100 guests on tastefully appointed wooden chairs and tables, and the atmosphere is quite nice. When I stopped by for lunch on a Monday the dining room was nearly empty. I’m told that during the dinner hours, though, things can get quite busy.
