Nawab is an Indian restaurant located at the north end of Zamalek. Established four years ago, Nawab enjoys an excellent reputation for its authentic Indian food. The manager of the restaurant is Indian, and the menu is inspired by North Indian cuisine.
With over 100 menu items to select from, the choice of meal was difficult! The menu includes soups, appetizers, kebabs, chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetarian mains, many rice and bread options, and Indians desserts and drinks. However, the manager was very helpful in describing the dishes, and giving recommendations.
For appetizers, we enjoyed the vegetable samosas (12 LE), two vegetable patties stuffed with spiced vegetables, and the shami kebab (34LE), deliciously spiced patties of ground lamb served with a mint sauce.
We ordered lamb korma dilpasand (67LE) as a main. The lamb was tender, and sweet yoghurt sauce had lots of flavor. The pilau rice (22LE) was so good that I ate the left-overs for lunch the next day and enjoyed the flavor by itself. The naan bread (8LE) was fresh and warm, and delicious with the curry. With mango lassi (18LE) on the side, we enjoyed this meal at lot. The service was excellent and quick.
On a previous visit to Nawab, I was accompanied by Indian friends. They were impressed by the authenticity of the food, and they were also very happy to discover Indian spices are sold at a counter on the restaurant.
The interior of the restaurant is comfortable, and surrounded by the Indian décor and the beautiful spicey aromas, it’s difficult to remember that you are in Cairo and not Delhi! At a total bill of 179LE for a main, sides, 2 appetizers and 2 drinks, Nawab offers a fantastic value for money. This restaurant is highly recommended!
