Benin City is an ancient city steeped in culture, and compared to Lagos it has taken longer to adapt to the modern Nigeria. As such it has a limited number of modern culinary offerings. Lincx Cuisine is definitely a representation of the “new Nigeria,” and a sign that things are starting to change here.
It is a modern two-story club, which both internally and externally is one of the most modern in Benin City. Even the branding wouldn’t be amiss in a major international city. As such, it has attracted a buzzing mix of nouveau- riche Benin businessmen and aspiring young office workers.
On the weekend, Lincx is known as one of the main hangouts, and surrounding roads are double parked as style-conscious clubbers arrive. The space is divided between club and restaurant. The club side has double height walls, a small dance floor, an L-shaped bar, and modern sound equipment. It’s stylish with tiled walls and geometric print wallpaper.
The restaurant is a more intimate space, located through a set of double doors to the rear of the club; again it’s a stylish space, serving a continental, Nigerian, and even a Thai menu. On Sundays, there is an all-you-can-eat buffet with various menus for N2000 a head.
It’s a great spot to soak up a bit of West African nightlife. It’s also an interesting litmus test serving as an indicator of how this part of the world is embracing western culture.
