Jerry’s Burger Bar in Observatory is definitely the new place in town to grab a burger and a craft beer with friends. From the great old school traditional American tattoo décor to the delicious burgers and craft beer selection, Jerry’s has it all under one roof. I was pleasantly greeted by friendly staff who aren’t shy to start a conversation with you and tell you what their favourites picks are on the menu. The venue also offers a cool, late night bar to hang out with the locals and fellow burger enthusiasts. I would definitely recommend Jerry’s Original 7 Deadly Sins burgers as they are the craziest, most delicious items on the menu and really showcase what the good people at Jerry’s have to offer. Besides monstrous burgers and beer, Jerry’s also serve “Easy Pickings” which feature some bar favourites like hot wings and ribs. The music is great and so is the atmosphere!

For starters, I had to try the Beer-battered Onion Rings which were light, oily and delicious. The big rings are served as a side portion and compliment anything on the menu to a tee. You can also order a big portion to share with the table if you’re really in the mood.

For mains, I couldn’t wait to try The Sloth 7 deadly sins burger, stuffed with cheddar cheese and jalapeno and topped with bacon and avocado. All burgers at Jerry’s are served with chips on a tasty brioche bun. This is by-far the juiciest burger I’ve ever tried and you can taste the 100% quality beef. The sweet bun really adds a great element to the gourmet-style toppings and I loved the pickles, red onion and shredded lettuce garnish.  With a perfect balance of flavours and ingredients, this burger was pure harmony!

For dessert, my waitress suggested the ginger bread milkshake and it really blew me away. The big class of shake tasted like a ginger bread man blended up with some of the finest ice cream around. Sweet, unique and spicy! Another classic Jerry’s dessert to try is the apple pie milkshake, made with locally produced apple pie vodka that will become your new favourite drink.

Among a host of new burger and craft beer restaurants popping up all over everywhere, few actually dish up great burgers at a fair price. Jerry’s is one that does. The burgers are truly delicious, the fries are thin and crispy, and the milkshakes are awesome. Plus, you can enjoy your food with a host of craft beers on tap.

Jerry’s is a new establishment nestled in the pub and restaurant line up of Lower Main Road in Observatory, better known as Obz. Basically, the neighborhood is two blocks of divey restaurants and bars crammed along an impossibly narrow two lane road. It’s a mecca for local university students, backpackers, hipsters, drunks, junkies, the down and out, and the after-work-drinks crowd—a little bit of everything. You’ll find that tattoos outnumber parking spaces by about a million to one in the heart of Obz, and the street is bustling at any time of day.

Jerry’s has an awesome menu with upwards of 20 gourmet burgers available. I tried one of the seven “stuffed” burgers named after the deadly sins. Sloth—a handmade burger patty with a pocket inside stuffed with cheddar cheese and jalapeno, all topped off with bacon and avocado. It was the perfect mix of a browned, crunchy outside with a pink, juicy interior and a nice grilled flavor. Jerry’s prides itself on using only 100% beef with no fillers or other “stuff” in the patty, and the burgers are served on a brioche bun, which is a cut above most places. I also loved the skinny, crispy fries and my gingerbread milkshake.

The atmosphere is very cool ; the décor focuses on tattoo art and rock ‘n’ roll. Jerry’s is more pub than restaurant though, and it’s small, so it gets loud and crazy. If you just want a good burger without all the hoopla, best to go for lunch or early in the evening.
