The Indian Chapter is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Blouberg. It offers really delicious Indian food at a fair price in nicely decorated surroundings. I recently visited for a Friday night dinner, and the place was packed. The restaurant is spread across two buildings called Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. Presumably the second Chapter was added later to accommodate more guests because Chapter 1 is quite a small space. The décor in the two sections differs but the kitchen is the same.
The menu covers traditional Indian favorites including tandoori, and a wide variety of curry options alongside breyani, naan, and paratha. I tried the Punjabi style chicken samoosa starter, which was definitely a cut above the typical samoosa in South Africa. We sampled the house favorite lamb roganjosh, and I can never pass on the butter chicken (makhani). Both dishes were delicious, rich, and just the right amount of spicy, but we decided the chicken makhani had the slight edge. Rice comes complimentary with the curry, and we also sampled the garlic naan and an aloo paratha—both too good!
Service was very attentive and friendly, although a little slow due to the Friday night crowd. We were also surprised to get some live entertainment! A belly dancer performed for several songs and even got a few patrons to participate, apparently a Friday evening tradition.
I would definitely recommend The Indian Chapter if you’re staying in Blouberg, and it’s worth the trip out if a craving for Indian food hits. The only downside of the Indian Chapter is that its location can’t take advantage of Blouberg’s best feature—the view across the bay to Table Mountain. I would recommend going to one of the beachfront bars to catch the sunset before your dinner reservation at the Indian Chapter.
