Sometimes you’re a bit hungry, but you don’t want an actual meal. Maybe just a cup of coffee will do — or coffee with a little something sweet or savory on the side.

That’s when you head to the nearest Dorman’s Coffeehouse. Dorman’s, considered Kenya’s leading coffee roaster and exporter, was founded in 1950. It roasts coffee for local consumption (you can buy it in the supermarket) and the company exports approximately 250,000 bags of green coffee annually, grown both in Kenya and Tanzania. Tasters at its head office in Nairobi assess more than 1500 cups a week in determining lots and blending.

But you don’t want a bag of whole roasted beans — you just want to sit down for a moment, relax and enjoy a hot cup of coffee. Once you’re in range of a Dorman’s, you can find the casual coffeehouse by following the delectable aroma.

After you’ve ordered your coffee (of whatever variety), consider a pastry, muffin, croissant or even a sandwich to go with it. Or, if you’re not in the mood for java, think about ordering a shake, smoothie, soda or fruit juice.  Three of the Dorman’s locations (Westgate, Mama Ngina and Wilson Airport) have full kitchens that can rustle up what they term “proper meals.”

You’ll spend less than 1000 KES for coffee and a snack, and get free WiFi in the bargain.

There are eight locations in and around Nairobi: downtown (on Mama Ngina Street in the Central Business District), Junction (on Ngong Road at the Dagoretti Corner Junction shopping mall), Karen (in front of Nakumatt Karen), Village Market (in Gigiri /Highridge), Westgate (Mwanzi Road in Westlands), Wilson Airport (next to Air Kenya) and Yaya Center (on Arwgins Kodhek Road past Hurlingham).
