The eight-story Mega Plaza in central Victoria Island houses a mixture of venues from an appliance store on the ground floor to a grocery store to a spectrum of boutiques and restaurants. De Marquee is on the top floor of this beehive with a commanding view over the island. To get there, walk straight in the ground level and then immediately turn left to find the hidden elevators. Take those to the top floor.

Though it bills itself as a dinner and drinks venue, De Marquee is more of a night out than a simple dinner. Downstairs, there’s an elegant (for a mall) dining room with dark, wood paneling, and deep tones of red and white on the furniture. The restaurant primarily serves protein-heavy fare from steaks to lamb chops to prawns with a western spin on the entire menu.

Most of the action, however, is upstairs. Here the decor is darkly lit and very modern, highlighted by a large, glass-walled main dining room with a dance floor, a concrete-tiled patio housing several couches with a score of tables and a wraparound balcony that runs parallel to the main room. A few palms and other plants dot the patio to give it a bit of privacy and character, which is a nice contrast from the concrete.

It’s also a design that’s well-suited to starting a dance party, which is precisely what happens most nights. A DJ pumps out a mix of Afro hip-hop from a kiosk near the door and the beats are loud enough to make conversation anywhere on the property difficult, but the music is good and the waiters are always around to take orders. There’s also a projected television on the patio wall that plays a mixture of programming ranging from the pro tennis circuit to WWE wrestling.

De Marquee is a pretty fancy place, especially after 11pm, and the prices are reflective. A gin and tonic here will set you back N1800 and there are a variety of other costly options including bottle service.
