A local eatery, boasting traditional Egyptian dishes at great prices, Cairo Kitchen is a must for anyone looking to kick back and enjoy some hearty traditional meals.

One of the reasons I liked Cairo Kitchen so much is that the food is great, and it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. They have plenty of options for food and drinks, and the venue is cozy, with a fun atmosphere. The restaurant sits on different levels, and as you approach the cashier to order you can see (and smell) all the food being prepared. The ingredients are fresh and you can ask the server (within reason) to amend your order as he fills up your plates right in front of you. I dined in, but Cairo Kitchen is also a popular takeaway place.

It was hard to choose which Egyptian delicacy I should go for! In the end I chose a typical pasta meal, “koshari,” with a half roast chicken, “molokheya” (slimy green soup which sounds gross but is actually delicious!) and stuffed aubergines, peppers and courgettes. The food was tasty, hot and heart-warming. You can also choose typical Egyptian drinks, and they offer free refills on these. They include a sweet coconut milk drink, hibiscus, lemon and mint, rosewater, etc.

The restaurant is lively and staff are helpful. The menu is good, as long as you like Egyptian food or are at least willing to try it, and the place is colourful and clean. Prices are very good, and it’s a great place to go either for a lunch with friends or a dinner. They often have outdoor seating, which is nice as the restaurant is quietly situated just off a main street.

I would definitely recommend it for people looking to try local food and wanting to have a fun meal. It’s a visual and vibrant restaurant, and it’s interesting to see a modern take on traditional foods and styles. All the décor points towards Egyptian local culture and history.  They also sell an excellent Cairo Kitchen cookbook, for those adventurous to try these dishes in their own homes! I would happily eat here every day.
