Café Bree will probably remind you of your Grandma’s house. It’s totally decked out in florals and knick knacks and sits squarely on the feminine side. That said, the food is pretty delicious. I stopped by for a weekday breakfast with a few friends. We were very surprised when the manager brought us a round of free cupcakes, just because. We sampled the red velvet and the carrot cake, and both were excellent.
The only problem was that after the cupcakes, we had lost most of our appetite for our actual food. I tried their gourmet summer omelet with cream cheese, crispy bacon, roma tomatoes, and rocket. It was nicely presented and served with a side of salad. It was very tasty, but it was way too much food after the cupcake! The coffee was also very good, and it was served in the most flowery cup and saucer I’ve ever seen. Besides breakfasts, Café Bree offers a Mediterranean themed menu with a wide variety of options including pizza, salads, seafood, sandwiches, pasta, and some various European main courses like chicken schnitzel and veal picatta.
Café Bree is located in the busy Groenkloof Plaza with several other shops and restaurants. Depending on the time of day, the plaza can be very busy indeed as many locals do their grocery shopping at the plaza, making parking somewhat of a challenge. The café itself is quite small. It consists of a few tables in the busy interior of the restaurant and then an outdoor seating area protected by canvas side walls in inclement weather. Unfortunately, the café looks out onto the parking lot and the road beyond it, so the atmosphere isn’t the greatest. Service was friendly and attentive. If old fashioned is your vibe, Café Bree is the place to go. I highly recommend the red velvet cupcake.
