Blink and you’ll miss it so you will probably need a driver to direct you here. Don’t worry; most know where it is as its extremely popular with expats, particularly South Africans. Opened by a Texan over twenty years ago it has a number of claims to fame, including being the first place in Lagos where you could order a draught beer. I also reliably informed they have the best margaritas in Lagos. Since the departure of the Texan owners it has been taken over by Lebanese management but continues to provide good tex-mex food. Tarik the manager is a chatty friendly guy with plenty of insight into day to day life in Lagos. It is particular popular on Wednesday and Saturday nights when they host live music either from a local band or a Nigerian Guitarist D’abina. He is a consummate entertainer often taking to the crowd, even mounting the tables on occasion to a mix of consternation and delight. Tuesday night there is a ‘Wings and Beer’ night where diners can gorge on 5 flavours of wings and as much beer as they can drink for N4500, as the sign says ‘sweatpants are recommended’. Decor is a mixture of hats, flags, street scenes of Mexico and assorted Americana. Food is strictly Tex-Mex; Jalapeños poppers come in at N2400 whilst Beef nachos or prawn and bacon wraps clock up at N2500. Reasonable value for Lagos and whilst some expats bemoan a decline in quality since the departure of the Texan management without the benefit of reference I was very happy with both food and atmosphere. It has certainly remained popular with the majority of locals.
