Blake bills itself as an “entertainment venue” in the heart of Abuja, though most visitors will see little more than the bar and music scene at this Garki spot. Just off Muhammed Bello Way and down a short slope, Blake is a flat, sprawling complex adorned with colorful globes in the driveway and rope lights throughout the entryway.

There’s an indoor events hall to the left at the main entrance, but that’s reserved for special occasions and bookings. Most will want to head to the right through the gate, where an enclosed outdoor seating area is set up. There are probably a hundred tables packed in here, with some under the second floor balcony and others out in an open courtyard. Everything centers around a main stage where a wide spectrum of bands could play each night ranging from Afro-hip hop to local to western music.

Around the perimeter of the courtyard run numerous rope lights and colored fluorescent bulbs, creating a great atmosphere to sit back and soak up some local music.

Blake serves a limited selection of grilled meats and soup as well as a broad selection of alcohol from around N 500. Though I wasn’t able to try to food, it’s worth noting that much of it seems to be grilled in the courtyard out front, so if you have concerns about the source or cleanliness of your meal it may be worth eating before you get here. Since the action here really doesn’t get started until after 9PM though, that shouldn’t be a problem. When I stopped by at 7:30 the venue was nearly deserted.

Depending on the act each night, visitors may be asked to pay a cover change. During the Friday night of my visit there was an N 500 fee at the front gate.
