After a 45-minute flight on a small plane from Nairobi, we arrived at the resort with our safari guide, Edward, and were totally amazed. Wow! Think glamping (glamorous camping) or luxury camping. You are in tents — but not quite the tents you might be thinking about. These luxury tents have huge beds and mosquito nets, but aside from the wood/glass door, everything else is like a tent. The bathroom was HUGE with a large shower and separate toilet area. It was the perfect space for a small group of friends or a family.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner were included and there was all types of food — Indian, Chinese, and much more. With different options daily, you were sure to not be bored while you are there. James O. took great care of us in the dining area. All of the staff always with a smile on their face, were just as attentive as the other Sarova hotels I stayed at.
Things to keep in mind: All of the camps in the area are eco-friendly, so they shut the electricity off a certain time to conserve. It didn’t bother us. We got to take in all of the sounds of the animals in their habitat at night, which was pretty cool — and sometimes scary lol. What a different, cool experience!
The safari experience with Sarova Mara was just as exquisite. I came, I saw, I conquered THE BIG FIVE. If you are unfamiliar with the Big Five, they are lions, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes and elephants. I saw them all — and some of them are quite difficult to see — so I understand why they call these animals out.
This is only a small fraction of the animals I saw. It was too many and I wanted to enjoy the moment and not be a slave to my phone or camera. I was still able to catch a lot…but some will just go in my memory bank which is alright with me.
If you visit Kenya, I highly recommend you stay at the Sarova Mara and do your safari with them. It was very safe, a great glamping experience, and it was an excellent game drive!

As this was my first time on safari, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Will I be sleeping in the wild? Will I have a bed? I later learned the difference between a lodge and a camp (a lodge has permanent buildings, while a camp consists of tents), but after staying at the Sarova Mara Game Camp for three days I couldn’t have been happier with my choice.
Once I disembarked the small plane at the Keekorok landing strip, I was greeting by a staffer who offered me beverages, fruit and pastries. Considering that there is absolutely nothing at the landing strip, this was a nice touch! After paying my park entrance fees, we proceeded directly onto the first of four game drives. Initially I thought that four game drives in three days would be a bit much, but it wasn’t – each time I had a different memorable experience.
Accommodations were in a large tent with a queen-sized bed. Despite there being no doors or locks, I felt very safe once inside. The tent had a desk, closet, safe and a full bathroom which looked like it could have been in an actual hotel. At night, the generator for the tents was powered off for a few hours, but I was given a flashlight and candles in case I needed to move around my tent.
Although the on site restaurant is only open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – that’s all I needed, as the meals were plentiful. Each meal was buffet style and offered options which catered to all, even fresh baked naan! A bar/lounge was also available to guests, and alcoholic beverages were reasonably priced.
I have traveled many places, but the service I received at the Sarova Mara was the best! Everyone genuinely wanted to help make my stay a good one. More than once I had some unique requests, and each time they worked with me to make sure my needs were fulfilled.
I loved this trip because literally everything was taken care of. Between the ease of the trip and the amazing service provided by the entire staff, I without a doubt would recommend the Sarova Mara Game Camp to anyone looking for an unforgettable safari experience.
