Upon arriving to the Sankara Nairobi I was greeted by bellman before entering through security, which is standard in Nairobi, and proceeding to their beautiful atrium-style lobby. Check-in was a breeze, as was locating my Club Room on the 6th floor. With a Club Room I received complimentary WiFi and access to their 7th floor Club Lounge which afforded me enhanced amenities including breakfast and a nightly happy hour.  The breakfast had a nice selection of standard American and English dishes, and the happy hour offered a variety of spirits.

The bed in my room was extremely comfortable, making it easy for me to catch up on sleep after my long trip to Kenya. One lovely extra is the animal figurines left for each guest on the nightstand during turn-down service. Each came with information about the animal they represent and serve as a nice token of your trip to Kenya.

I ordered room service, which outside of a little miscommunication, did not disappoint. However, room service options are limited in the late night/early morning hours, which isn’t ideal for those suffering from jetlag who find themselves hungry at 4am. There are full-service restaurants on-site which offer both buffet and a la carte options. I had the opportunity to dine at Artisan, which was excellent.

The Sankara also has a full state-of-the-art gym and boasts an award-winning spa.  And, I cannot rave enough about their rooftop Sarabi Pool & Supper Club – very modern and chic with great food and drinks!

While the Sankara is in the Westlands, a safer part of Nairobi, it is very busy – be conscious when walking to the nearby restaurants and banks, and per the hotel staff’s advice, I would not walk anywhere at night.

From the receptionists at the front desk, to the hosts in the club lounge and the greeters at the front door, the service at the Sankara was truly impeccable. They helped make my three-night stay in the hotel nothing short of amazing.
