Jabi is a bit far out of the city center for many business travelers, but for those who are looking for a little bit of boutique style or maybe some peace and quiet, there’s not much better than the Nordic Residence.
With only 22 rooms, the Nordic Residence is a small and personable hotel tucked into an affluent and residential community west of the city. There is no exterior signage on the building; you’ll have to get the address beforehand and direct your driver precisely to that spot. Even once you walk into the main hall the reception desk isn’t terribly obvious – a security guard pleasantly pointed me to an inset room just left of the entryway, where two staff members were amicably waiting for my arrival
The lobby, like the rooms, is minimally designed, with simple and elegant Scandinavian furniture and nice clean touches of green plants and wall art. My room was set up with a solid black work desk with a designer lamp, a small refrigerator, a designer work chair and table and a queen sized bed. In classic European style, two comforters were wrapped up on the laminated-wood black bed, and there was a medium flat-screen television mounted perpendicular on the wall. The bathroom was dim, but decent in size with a tall shower head and on-demand hot water. Wi-Fi was also free for use.
Beyond connecting to the internet and plugging into the television, which has a dozen international news stations, there isn’t much to do at the Nordic Residence. There’s a small public area among the 22 rooms in the central corridor and some workspace in the lobby, but most of the activity here is confined to the rooms. It’s a good 20-30 minute drive from Jabi to the center of the city, so make sure you have your schedule in order before making the trip out here.
