Set on an unassuming street in Ikeja, one of the nicer neighborhoods in Lagos, the Ibis won’t win any awards for its views. However it is a newer property and has been furnished to a decent, crisp standard.
The lobby area is clean, bright and stylish with an open-plan communication centre leading onto the in-house restaurant. (Oopen Restaurant and Bar serves main courses that run from N4000-N7200, and snacks from N250.) This light, modern space leads onto the swimming pool area, which is compact but big enough to knock out a few lengths. At one end of the pool there is a colourful angel motif mural that keeps the feel upbeat and contemporary, while a small, comfortably air conditioned gym offers a couple of running machines, cross trainers and free weights.
Rooms are small but stylishly appointed, with the limited space well utilised. Much of the furniture is multi-functional, meaning there is still a reasonable amount of floor space in a room that might otherwise feel cramped. There are clever high-tech touches, such as the data ports on the TV that allow you to review photos or screen movies from your laptop. Overall the space is well used, but there just isn’t that much of it: 165 rooms on a fairly small footprint. This might make guests feel a little claustrophobic if staying more than a night or two, but for brief stays it works well.
Staff were a little distracted and not overtly friendly on my arrival but neither were they rude. Possibly they are just finding their feet after only recently opening.
Overall the Ibis offers good value; they have spent money getting a good finish and have thought about how to use the space wisely. I found it to be a good mid-budget option.
