My experience at Chances Hotel was scary. Before checking in I was told that this was a good hotel, so I was surprised by the shabby conditions of my room, and especially the fact that I had “guests.”
My visitors were the ants that infested the bathroom. They were all around the tub for some strange reason, and there were the opportunist spiders lurking for a potential meal. The room looked like it had been cleaned, but the dingy and well-used sheets and towels made me wonder. I put up with the towels, but I only laid on top of my sheets, with my street clothes on. My bathroom had a leaky faucet, faulty plumbing and a rickety toilet seat.
The positive about this place is that the staff is friendly, the wi-fi is really good, possibly as good as it will ever be in the Volta Region, the food is good and it’s in a good position for exploring the rest of the area.
The outside grounds are well-maintained and wandering peacocks complement the lush greenery that surrounds the place, but the rooms are in need of a serious upgrade. Hotels in the Volta Region are lower in quality compared to the big cities like Accra, but I wasn’t expecting to feel like I was staying in a camp cabin instead of a hotel. There’s not much competition in this region when it comes to hotels, but the Big Foot Safari Lodge and the Sky Plus Hotel might be better options to consider.
