Bolton White is effectively two hotels sharing the same grounds: One “Premium,” the other “Classic.” I stayed on the Classic side, which has five floors based around a central atrium nicely decorated with contemporary Nigerian art.
Rooms are large, clean, and well finished. Though not very stylish, they are entirely functional and spacious with clean linen, hard wearing furniture with useful touches like the luggage racks for suitcases, and a desk large enough to write comfortably and set up a laptop. Floors are marble, which keeps rooms cool in the heat and the air-conditioning is quiet and effective. Wi-Fi speeds whilst not terribly quick are adequate, though larger files may take time to send/receive. Bathrooms have modern fittings, including three separate showerhead selections — but again, the watchword is hardwearing, with durability winning out over style.
Other onsite offerings include the Witherspoon cafe, the Brentwood restaurant, two bars, and conference facilities for up to 200. But the hotel’s best feature is the comfortable and sociable pool area to the rear of the property: numerous chairs are clustered under a tiled pergola, plus there’s a wet bar, sun loungers, and numerous sunshades in a quiet recess. It’s a friendly, relaxed spot where guests chat and make acquaintances easily.
It’s useful to have so many amenities on site, as Abuja can be difficult to get around without constantly taking cabs. Having said that, there is a good restaurant and suya spot within walking distance, for those looking for a meal away from the hotel.
