Postcard From South Africa: An American Filmmaker Explores “The Motherland”

In this video from The Africa Channel, our content partner, Detroit-based filmmaker Christian Hill journeys to South Africa for the first time and makes a visual diary of his trip.

As a child in the 1980s, Hill was inspired by Mandela and the struggle against apartheid, and vowed to someday to visit “the motherland.” In this clip he tours Soweto and the Johannesburg CBD and talks to locals about the significance of various landmarks in the tumultuous journey toward equal rights for black South Africans.

This clip is a six-minute excerpt of the full 30-minute program, which can be viewed on The Africa Channel on cable TV in the US. To see what time this show airs in your area, click here.
