New Smartphone App Puts Cape Town Attractions At Your Fingertips

Cape Town Tourism has just released the “Official Guide to Cape Town” app in hopes of giving tourists the best experience possible in the Mother City.

The tourism board, which is primarily targeting first-time visitors with the app, aims to offer hundreds of recommendations, insider tips, must-see sights, and off-the-beaten-path adventures. Users will be able to easily find restaurants, shops, accommodation, transport and historical landmarks, too.

All of the attractions covered in the app — such as Table Mountain and Kirstenbosch National Park — include visitor information, opening hours, maps and more.

And if you don’t know what you’re looking for, the app offers several sample itineraries to guide you around town.

In developing the app, Cape Town Tourism effectively crowdsourced information by getting numerous hints and tips from locals.

Unlike many competing apps, the Official Guide to Cape Town works online as well as offline, as all the initial data is downloaded to your device.

Another cool feature allows users to add their own places of interest to the app and share them with other people.

The app is currently available to download to iOS and Android devices.

However, if you aren’t too tech-savvy, Cape Town Tourism still has a print version of the Official Visitors Guide available at visitor centres around the city.
