Travel Tip: Where To Attend Free Wine Tastings Around Cape Town

Wine tours can have you wondering why you didn’t just buy a bottle and drink it at home, and many wine tastings can quickly eat into your budget.

Fortunately, there are several places in and around Cape Town where you can sample the some of the best wines in the area, for free!

If you’re staying in the city, one of the best places to go is Wine Concepts on Kloof Street.

This contemporary shop is one of the best boutique wine merchants in South Africa and offers daily wine tastings.

You can also meet the people behind the wines when the store hosts events.

In the Cape Winelands, Steenbarg Farm offers free wine tasting of select blends and is just a 20-minute drive from the heart of Cape Town.

Steenberg is the oldest registered farm in the Cape and produces a variety of wines, including Shiraz, Methode Cap Classique, Nebbiolo, and Sauvignon Blanc.

If you’re heading to Constantia, Buitenverwachting Wine Farm and Contsantia Uitsig make great places for scenic views and of course, free wine tasting.

The portfolio at Constantia Uitsig includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and an MCC Sparkling Wine.

Buitenverwachting specializes in a wide range of whites and reds — you can see their entire list here.

Over in Stellenbosch, Tokara is one of the few in the area that offers free wine tastings.

The picturesque destination also specializes in olives and olive oil — a perfect pair for their wines.

Just remember, while the wine tastings are free, you might like them so much that you pick up a few bottles.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you!
