If you love camping but don’t want all the fuss of cooking your own meals over an open fire, pitching a tent, or sleeping on the floor, then you should try glamping (glamorous camping). Many countries and safari outfitters have caught on to the trend, and there isn’t much of a better place to do it than Botswana. So get ready for an outdoor adventure in style — here are a few of the best places to go glamping in Botswana.
1. Saile Tented Camp
On the western boundary of Chobe in a private reserve is Saile Tented Camp. The camp is remote and small with four spacious Meru-style tents, each with private en-suite bathroom facilities with flushing toilets and hot showers. Enormous herds of elephants can sometimes be seen close to the camp.
2. Ngoma Safari Lodge
Ngoma Safari Lodge is a luxury thatched lodge that not only offers guests unique safari accommodation, but spectacular views of the Chobe River and Caprivi Flood plains. 3. Gunn’s Camp
On the border of the Moremi Game Reserve is Gunn’s Camp. The camp overlooks the legendary Chief’s Island and is one of the last few remaining luxury, vintage safari camps. With six fully furnished, deluxe Kenya-style meru tents that have en-suite bathrooms with standalone baths and outside private showers, you’ll feel right at home here.
4. Sanctuary Chief’s Camp
Located on Chief’s Island in the Moremi Game Reserve is Sanctuary Chief’s Camp. Ideal for game viewing, the camp’s surroundings change according to the seasons and have both a dry flood plain with loads of wildlife and a lush and tranquil lagoon during the wet season.
5. Chobe Under Canvas
With mobile safari tents that have flushing toilets and hot showers, all at secluded campsites in the Chobe National Park, Chobe Under Canvas is a place where you can encounter Botswana’s wildlife while still relaxing. The campsites are positioned as close as possible to resident game including herds of elephants.
6. Khwai Tented Camp
Located on the east border of the Moremi Game Reserve is the community-run concession Khwai Tented Camp. Not only do you get to enjoy your stay in Meru-style tents with comfortable beds and private en-suite bathrooms (flushing toilets and hot-water bucket showers), but a percentage of tourism fees go directly to help local people and projects through the Khwai Community Development Trust.
7. Pom Pom Camps
Situated on Pom Pom Island in a private concession in the heart of the Okavango Delta is Pom Pom Camps. The camp is also in the Moremi Game Reserve and gives visitors to the area amazing scenery of the Okavango wilderness. The campsite itself is beautiful with a lounge, dining area, bar, and pool areas. You’ll stay in one of nine luxury tents positioned under the shade of trees overlooking the Pom Pom Lagoon.
8. Sanctuary Baines’ Camp
If you looking for a small camp that is still luxurious, then head to Sanctuary Baines’ Camp. With only five suites that include star baths, sky beds and private decks, this is a great place to spend a romantic getaway or to go on your honeymoon. The camp is built on raised platforms above the Boro River in a private concession on the border of the Moremi Game Reserve.
9. Savute Under Canvas
If you want to explore the amazing Savute landscape, then head to the stunning Savute Under Canvas with its luxury mobile safari tents that have en-suite bathrooms (with flush w.c. and steaming hot bucket shower). Positioned in a remote corner of the Chobe National Park, the camp is quiet and allows for amazing game viewing.
10. Linyanti Bush Camp
Situated on the banks of the Linyanti Marsh, Linyanti Bush Camp is an intimate 12-bedded East African Meru-style tented camp that has stunning hot showers, flush toilet, comfortable sofa, writing desk, chest of drawers and a cupboard. There are loads of water and land activities including game drives, cruises, game walks and fishing.
11. Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp
Located on a private concession in the Okavango Delta, Sanctuary Stanley’s Camp is a classic tented camp. You can not only go view game, but this camp allows you to interact with African elephants from Living with Elephants.
12. Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp
With nine beautiful tented suites, Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp offers its guest amazing game viewing while staying in a beautiful campsite. With the wide open channels of the Delta spread in front of the camp, you are most likely to see amazing wildlife from the tented accommodation.
13. Linyanti Ebony
Also on the banks of the Linyanti Mars is the Linyanti Ebony in the Chobe Enclave. This eight-bedded tented camp with hot showers and flushing toilets is all built on elevated decking with gorgeous vies of the lagoons of the Linyanti River system. The camp also has a dining and lounge area with a small splash pool. The camp’s main dining and lounge area is complemented by its own splash pool.
14. Moremi Crossing
For bigger parties you can stay at Moremi Crossing which is a 16 tented camp built on a palm fringed island. This camp is a 100% eco-friendly one that has amazing solar and waste disposal technology. With a large open plan deck that has a spectacular view over the Boro River, a dining room, bar and lounge, this camp gives guests the ultimate comfort.
15. Footsteps Camps
Situated in two untamed areas of Botswana, the two Footsteps Camps both offer guests amazing game viewing in spacious Meru-style tents with comfortable twin beds. All tents are fully furnished and have hot water filled bucket showers and porcelain flush toilet. These two camps are perfect for families and young kids.
