Travel Tip Of The Day: Where To Go Horseback Riding In Western Cape

With natural beauty and scenic vistas around every corner, it’s not a surprise that South Africa’s Western Cape is a great place for horseback riding.

Whether you’re just looking for a romantic ride down the beach or an adventurous ride through the mountains, the following places make great choices to go horseback riding in Western Cape.

If you’re around Cape Town and want to ride on the beach, check out a ride in Noordhoek. Imhoff Equestrian Centre offers a two hour guided beach ride that goes along the water’s edge towards Chapman’s Peak and back. Along the way, riders can spot quite a bit of wildlife including whales, otters and seals.

For those who want to see the beauty of South Africa’s winelands, a trip to Stellenbosch is what the doctor ordered. Cape Town Horse Riding offers a beautiful trip through Stellenbosch and the Jonkershoek Valley. Rides start around 280pp per person, and you can add special packages such as a wine and ride, or a sunset ride. To book, contact the website.

Southeast of Cape Town is the Overberg region that’s a favorite place for nature enthusiasts to get away from it all. African Horse Company offers fantastic rides through several trails in the area, including one to six hour beach and mountain rides, and two to 10 day overnight rides that accommodate beginning to advanced horse riders.

Farther afield near beautiful Knysna, Black Horse Trails offers fantastic rides in the Outeniqua mountains just north of the city. While there, you can ride on black horses from one to three hours and get to see a waterfall where you can stop and take a break for a swim. To book, contact +27 (0)82 494-5642.

Of course, these are but a few options to go horseback riding in the region — there are simply too many places to count!
