The next time you are traveling in Africa, consider picking up a shawl. Not only are they fashionable, they can also protect you from the sun and help you fit in with the customs of the country you are visiting.
If you are entering a church or a mosque, it is often courtesy to cover up (depending on location).
Other good uses are covering up luggage you don’t want people to see, covering yourself up when you’re cold, or folding it up and using it as a pillow.
You can find great shawls online, but the best place to get them are markets around Africa (at least if you want the latest fashion in the location you’re visiting).
