Traveling on business can be a big chore, especially if you are scrambling to get work done on a deadline (in a foreign country no less). And it is at these times you need far more than just a good location and free coffee.
The following hotels in Accra give far beyond that and focus on meeting the needs of the most demanding business travelers:
The African Regent Hotel
The African Regent Hotel bills itself as an “Afropolitan” hotel and we have to say that is a good description, as it blends the best African themed flair with cosmopolitan taste. The staff here are super friendly and meet all the guests with a big African welcome and smile.
An airport shuttle is offered to and from the airport (less then a 10 minute ride), which makes for an easy transition and saves money on getting a cab. Rooms are furnished with flat screen TV’s and iPod docking stations along with speedy WiFi, free of charge.
Rooms and bathrooms are both quite spacious with modern finish, and if a hot shower doesn’t cut it, there is a spa on site that offers great massages.
When you need a break from the meetings, there is a nice bar in the lobby that serves up great cocktails. As for food, there are three restaurants on site, including the pool bar and lounge bar. Most of the cuisine is going to be Ghanaian-style dishes with a scattering of continental dishes on offer. If you’re planning on burning the midnight oil, the lounge bar is open 24 hours.
Villa Monticello
As one of the premiere hotels in Accra, the Villa Monticello offers comfortable rooms with a first class restaurant on site. The hotel also offers a free shuttle service that picks you up from the airport which comes in extremely handy.
Although it is somewhat of a boutique hotel, it features an ample conference center and quiet spaces, which is saying a lot, as it’s fairly close to the loud traffic of Accra.
The location is set in a residential neighborhood close to the airport, but easily accessible to all points in Accra. When you first enter the front doors, you are met with a sense of refinement from all of the modern furniture in the lobby. The rooms are also happen to be some of the largest in the city.
If you get hungry (which as far as we know most people do) the food on site is also excellent inside the 1A @ Villa Monticello restaurant. It’s a great venue for large group functions and features a full bar and wine cellar. Private event bookings are more than welcome.
Labadi Beach Hotel
If you want to experience a bit of the beach on your stay, or dare we say “bleisure,” you can’t go wrong with this luxury choice. While its not directly in the middle of the city, it’s only a short ride away and provides excellent business facilities. Just try not to get to a meeting in the middle of rush hour.
The hotel is styled as an African lodge and the lobby along with the rooms will bear out these design features. Beds are comfy with crisp linens and Wi-Fi is reliable throughout the hotel.
While the rooms aren’t quite as spacious as Villa Monticello, many of them have fantastic views and the serene location and beautiful grounds more than make up for it. You’ll probably find yourself strolling around and taking in the scenery between meetings and after work. However if you venture outside, the beach area is pretty busy with produce vendors trying to sell their goods. Parties at the beach are also not uncommon and things tend to get noisy.
If the beach isn’t your thing, a well-equipped gym and pool are also both on site for getting a workout in or just relaxing.
The Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel
Last but certainly not least, in fact, it’s probably the best hotel on the list and the largest five-star hotel in Accra. Although recently opened in 2011, Mövenpick is quickly becoming the favorite choice for international business travelers.
The hotel is also one of the closest to the Accra International Conference Center, which hosts many of the bigger conferences in the city. If you’re not attending an event there, the hotel offers a large conference center (seen above) and provides event management services to help facilitate your needs.
Rooms are modern and clean with a bit of European styling to them. If your looking to live large, try out the 320 square meter presidential suite.
It’s not only great as a business hotel, but performs well for pleasure with a nice pull to sit back, relax, and soak up some of the tropical Ghanaian rays by the pool. A fitness room and spa are also on site.
