Operated by the Tsogo Sun Resorts, Gold Reef City is an ideal spot for your thrill-seeking family. The theme park has something for both adults and kids, including a casino and high-speed roller coasters to get your adrenaline pumping. For smaller children, there are 14 other rides catered just for them. Other exciting amenities include a bowling alley, a Victorian train-station themed movie theater and a giant trampoline park. And the best part of this place? It’s open 24-hours of non-stop fun a day. Wits Planetarium

Explore space with your kids (at least on Earth) at Wits Planetarium. Part of a prestigious university in Johannesburg, the planetarium has several weekly programs for kids as young as five. Families can make themselves comfy and sit under the dome before being transported into the galaxy with moving constellations. “Space Travel,” a popular kid’s show at the planetarium features a cartoon host named Thomas who will navigate throughout the screening on his rocket to educate your children about the universe. The show is an hour long.

Lindfield Victorian House Museum

If not traveling through space, then travel back in time at Lindfield Victorian House Museum. This isn’t recommended for families with toddlers, but for older children who wish to get a glimpse of what life looked like back in the Victorian era. Families will start off with a tour around a Victorian mansion before being invited to its dining room for tea and cakes, to experience what it was like to be one of the wealthy family members that once lived within these four walls. Staff will dress up in period attire to make the tour and experience a more authentic one.

Yeesh! Fun For Kids

For many small children, their idea of fun isn’t browsing through museums. Sometimes your kids just need a place to go wild and play with others, and that’s where Yeesh! Fun For Kids comes in. This is the perfect spot to wear out your most high-energy kid. The venue operates as a safe play center for kids to use the indoor playground where they can climb on nets, crawl and jump in a ball pit. There’s a coffee shop with tables at the venue for parents to relax and unwind while their kids play in a supervised playground. The place also offers an art station where kids can paint ceramics or decorate cupcakes in its bakery center.

Ama Zwing Zwing Zip Line Tour

A short drive outside of Johannesburg will take you to Magaliesburg, an idyllic rural landscape teeming with nature. Ama Zwing Zwing Zip Line Tour caters to both adults and children to zoom past trees and see the land from with a bird’s-eye view. The scenery is gorgeous with Magaliesburg Mountains in the backdrop and a river. It’s common to see zebras grazing nearby, giving your family plenty to look at in between zip lines. Before the tour, a guide will carefully instruct every member of your family on safety protocol (including your kids ages 7 and up).

Croc City & Reptile Park

Get up and close with some of the country’s most fascinating and intimidating creatures at Croc City & Reptile Park. There, families will browse through impressive exhibits of scaly crocodiles, snakes, giant lizards and more. There are daily demonstrations where a skilled handler will allow children to hold docile reptiles or even a tarantula for pictures. Parents, show your kid exactly how brave you are by joining a hair-raising zip line tour at the park, where you’ll hover five meters over crocodiles in the water. There are guided tours throughout the park so your family can learn all about its animals.
