Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and happens to fall on a weekend this year, so there’s no excuse not to get away somewhere with your loved one.
And what better way to celebrate the special day than to go to a romantic place in Africa with your sweetie? Whether you and your significant other enjoy relaxing in luxury on the beach, roughing it in the African bush, rejuvenating under a starry mountain sky, or some combination of the above, Africa has plenty to choose from.
These five romantic African places are sure to spark the flame between you and your sweetie this Valentine’s Day.
The Kiss Suite at Fusion Boutique Hotel, South Africa
Located in the middle of Polokwane, Limpopo, the Fusion Boutique Hotel is one of the poshest hotels in South Africa. While five-star luxury is everywhere in the hotel, those looking for true romance will want to stay in the Kiss Suite. The suite was inspired by a painting of artist Gustav Klimpt and is the perfect place for lovers to relax. The room has romantic touches throughout, including vintage suitcases, his and her sinks, and several teddy bears. Outside, the area around the hotel is full of the sultry scent of baobab trees and the sounds of wildlife in the bush which are sure to add to the atmosphere of the experience.
The Eyrie at The Sanctuary, Kenya
Lovers wanting to escape from it all will enjoy The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille, Kenya. While The Sanctuary has several rooms to choose from, couples looking for romance will want to book the Eyrie room. It features a circular bedroom with panoramic views of the rolling mountains in the background, along with a circular bed covered in faux fur. The adjoining sitting room has an open fire for enjoying the evening, along with an octagonal room lit by mirrored candles. The Eyrie room also features a personal butler that will treat you to your every need. Activities in Ol Lentille include game drives, horse riding, camping, and more to enjoy with your partner.
Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie, Seychelles
If you and your lover want to escape to a tropical island for Valentine’s Day, there are plenty of places to do it in Africa. One of our favorites is Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie on La Digue island in the Seychelles. The island itself has a super romantic atmosphere and the French ambiance of the hotel cranks that up a notch. The hotel rooms are located on a hill set above Anse Severe beach, each with fabulous views of the water, lush tropical canopy and mountains in the background. The spa is also exquisite and is surrounded by a garden of massive granite rocks, giving you and your lover a fantastic place to relax. If you can pull yourself away from the hotel, La Digue island is at your doorstep to explore.
Camp Amoureux, Madagascar
Lovers who want to have a more remote experience will enjoy Madagascar’s Camp Amoureux, meaning “lovers’ camp.” The camp is located close to the world-famous Avenue of Baobabs, only 44km north of the town of Morondava in the south west of the island. It’s named for the gorgeous entwined baobabs, which are the focal point of the camp, and is surrounded by a rich, biodiverse habitat, ranging from dry forests to mangrove swamps and lakes. The camp features thatched roof bunglaows with tents inside, which allows lovers to get absolutely in touch with nature. Camp Amoureux is also the perfect base from which to experience the exotic trees which have helped to make Madagascar renowned worldwide.
Kasbah Tamadot, Morocco
The seemingly never ending landscape of Morocco’s Atlas Mountains are an excellent romantic choice to spend Valentine’s Day weekend with your significant other. One of the most romantic (if not the most romantic) places to stay in the area is a little spot owned by Sir Richard Branson — Kasbah Tamadot. Lovers will be swept away as they walk through the exotic grounds of the Kasbah which are decorated with desert plants, intricate tile work and vivid colors. Couples looking for complete privacy should book the master suite, which is a miniature kasbah with three special rooms, a large terrace and a private pool. The onsite Moroccan hammam is also top notch, and specializes in a variety of delicate treatments to help you make the most out of your stay.
