I was very excited when The Larder opened up in Claremont. I had heard people talking about them on Twitter and it was one good review after another. I then went on to their website and loved it even more. The website is beautifully done and the visuals are very appealing. So it was only obvious that we would be visiting soon.
A very cute place, opened only for 10 days and still a bit of work being done on it, but this almost added to the charm of the place. Very laid back, creative and homely it was easy to feel at ease here. Owner Sonja could be seen singing away to 80s music while she made some hollandaise sauce for our breakfast. She came to chat to us and see if everyone was to our liking and was incredibly friendly. The place is small, intimate and oh so refreshing.
We were there at breakfast time where we chose The Johnny Depp Breakfast, delicious poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, bacon, cherry tomatoes and rocket on home style bread. Also at the table were mushrooms en cocotte topped with two eggs and a side of avocado. Absolutely delicious. All the ingredients are locally sourced and freshly made. After that we enjoyed a Flat White and an Americano coffee which were both delicious.
On offer at the counter are many homemade jams, chillis and varies other snack items. We bought some popcorn to enjoy later on in the day.
Their first branch is in Diep River which has been open for a few years and they have now expanded and opened up this lovely little branch in Claremont. I think they are going to do very well and will appeal to the heart of people who like to keep it local.
