Many argue it serves the best pizza in Harare, and despite being part of a chain, I agree it is hard to find a better slice of pie. In the upscale Avondale Shopping Center, the pizzas here are cooked in wood-fire ovens and portions are American-style huge making sharing easy. The restaurant is part of a South African franchise, but it still manages to parlay palatable interior décor – kind of slick Euro modern with light wood paneled walls and lots of shiny metal and red accents. You order at the counter, but there are plenty of tables and even a small but lively bar area with red stools and a few (more comfortable) matching hued couches.

When it comes to ordering, start with the pizza bread for an appetizer. The doughy deliciousness is made even tastier when dipped into one of two sauces, chili or garlic, served with it. The pizzas themselves can be covered with the usual assortment of pepperoni, mushrooms and olives or more unique varieties like Thai chicken and pineapple. Best of all they come in three sizes, and prices are very affordable (from $7 for a small pie). It also does a range of pasta dishes, steaks, seafood and some healthy salads, many of which come in single and multi-person portions. St Elmos is popular with families and fills quickly on weekends – there is a specific play area for the kids. It also does good inexpensive glasses of wine (maybe another reason local parents like coming here so much).
