Right on Main Road in Green Point, Simply Asia, which is part of a franchise, and in this location is a small restaurant with seating outside on a shady patio set back from but fronting the street, as well as a few tables inside.

I have to admit when I came here I wasn’t expecting much. It was my last day in Cape Town and I was actually hoping to get in one more meal at Hudson’s, which is one of my favorite Green Point dives, down the street. But they weren’t open at 11:30am, and I had a plane to catch, so I went to Simply Asia instead.

I’m sure glad I did. I was beyond happy with my filling noodle bowl that was just the right amount of savory and spicy. I ordered the Ba-Mee Phad Phong Garee (seafood curry noodles), which was a delicious combination of prawn and calamari, green peppers, egg, tomato, onions, celery and basil tossed with yellow noodles and curry sauce and stir fried. The waitress asked what level of spice I wanted and the noodles came out with just the right amount of hotness. And at just R79, the bowl was also good value considering the heaping portions of seafood included.

There are dozens upon dozens of noodle bowls in all imaginable meat, veggie and seafood combinations on the menu here, but if you aren’t craving noodles, you can order from the Thai mains that include curries and a basil and chili stir-fry.

Overall this is a tasty and affordable fast bite with efficient service in Green Point. They also do takeaway if you’d rather eat in your flat or hotel room – there are a number of luxury and mid-range hotels in this location, which is also across the street from the stadium.

Simply Asia is usually a reliable to spot to grab lunch or takeaways when you’re in the mood for Thai food. Not every Simply Asia branch is enjoyable to dine at, but Simply Asia Sea Point has become my favourite Simply Asia branch in Cape Town. The service is great, the food is always on point and the location is great for lunch or dinner. Other than the usual Thai noodle dishes, Simply Asia also serves sushi and delicious starters that you’ll be crazy not to try.

For starters, I had the Chicken Satay and Chicken Springrolls and Sweetcorn Cakes. The chicken satay is full of flavour and come with a delicious dipping sauce that will start your meal with a bang. You can never go wrong with the mini springrolls from Simply Asia that’s served in portions of 6. However, my favourite starter from Simply Asia has to be the Sweetcorn Cakes that the Sea Point branch do exceptionally well. Battered sweetcorn caked deep fried and served with sweet and sour sauce. Seriously, you have to try it!

For mains, I ordered the Roasted Chilli Paste and Cashew Nut Noodles after always being afraid it might be too hot for my liking. Of course, at Simply Asia you can order your meal mild, spicy or hot, so I went with the mild option and it was exactly that. A very pleasant and tasty dish! The noodles were cooked perfectly and I couldn’t get enough of the cashew nuts and veggies.

Located in the New Kings Hotel piazza, Simply Asia Sea Point is more upmarket than the usual branches and definitely worth a visit!
