Salushi is my ‘local’ when it comes to sushi. It’s close enough from home for me to walk to (good thing or bad thing, I never can tell), and it has some of my favourite sushi. For me, and for most sushi lovers, the favourite sushi is often salmon roses, which is rice, wrapped in salmon and topped with mayo and caviar. It’s normally of the more expensive dishes on the menu and if done right it should be as close to food perfection as possible. I ALWAYS order salmon roses and I ALWAYS leave it to eat last, so that I can end on a good night. That’s until I went to Salushi. Their salmon roses are amazing, don’t get me wrong, but I discovered something that for me actually surpasses the almighty rose. To me, their Princes Prawn Kisses is the best sushi I have EVER tasted, and I have tasted a lot of sushi. Its prawn, rice and slices of strawberry wrapped in avocado and drizzled with sweet chilli sauce. I cannot quite explain how incredible it is. You get three pieces per order and each time I get double, and boy do I savour those six pieces. Kissed by a Prawn King.
The restaurant itself is in a great location in the heart of the Southern Suburbs and nestled in Claremont. It easy to find, parking is easy and it offers the spectacular view of Table Mountain. There is the option of sitting inside or outside and if it’s too cold or it’s raining then an awning is put down so both options still remain. It has a great atmosphere for a variety of different occasions. I’ve been before with my husband for a date night and it felt very romantic. Yet I’ve also been with a group of friends and it was fun and energetic. It has a way of lending itself to what you want.
