We have lived in Newlands for almost two years and we have walked past Rock Sushi Thai many times. It looks beautiful from the outside with the wooden beans, the glass and the vines swirling around it all. It has an almost magical feel to it. I am not sure why it took us so long to finally try it. It is a bit on the pricey side, especially their sushi which is perhaps what put me off. Now that I’ve been though, I definitely want to go back. I probably wouldn’t go for their sushi because it’s hard to justify spending so much on it when there are other cheaper and very good sushi restaurants nearby. However, we decided to try their Thai food and it really is amazing. It’s also not too expensive and at only R78 I received a huge portion for dinner.
I’ve never really considered myself as someone who enjoys Thai food but after coming here I realise how wrong I’ve been all this time. I ordered the Thai Green Curry which came with ginger, lemongrass, galangal, lime leaf and green chilli. I opted for mild because I’m not a lover of very hot food. It was delicious and I didn’t want it to end. My husband was with me and he chose the Angry Beef stir fry which came with tamarind chilli sauce, steamed vegetables and noodles. He went for medium but said next time he’d try the hot. He absolutely loved it.
Our waiter was amazing, the food was really incredible and the décor is very beautiful and tranquil. I loved this place so much and will definitely come back again. We were too full for dessert but we’ve been told that the chocolate spring rolls are amazing!
