I cannot believe it has taken me so long to visit the Rhodes Memorial Restaurant. It’s only about 3km from my flat, and I’ve run the route to the top a few times when I do hill training. Yet somehow it has taken me this long to actually go to the restaurant. Rhodes Memorial is a landmark in Cape Town which offers panoramic views of Cape Town and is one of the view vantage points where both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans can be seen. It really is one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen.
The restaurant is actually quite well hidden, and if it wasn’t for the sign saying ‘Restaurant’ I wouldn’t have even known it was there. And so it was surprising to me to see how big it actually was. What a gorgeous place to have a restaurant and tea garden. Tables set under trees offering shade on a sunny day. We settled in for a relaxing afternoon.
Their menu is quite varied and simple. I chose a simple cheese and tomato sandwich with fries and a salad and my husband went for the prego steak roll. The food wasn’t amazing by any means, but it was nice. I have been told they do a great breakfast, so perhaps I’ll try that next time. Or coffee and cake. It certainly seems like a coffee and cake type of place.
This is a place you go to linger for hours. With wide open spaces, incredible views and a very happy-go-lucky vibe, it makes you fall in love with Cape Town all over again.
I loved the fact that they catered for dogs too, with water bowls and dog biscuits ready at hand.
