Rueben’s is known as one of the poshest restaurants in Cape Town and is most famous for his restaurant at the One and Only Hotel. Rueben also has restaurants in the more beautiful areas of Cape Town like Franschhoek and the one I was lucky enough to visit, Paternoster. Located at the renowned boutique guesthouse Abalone House, Rueben’s has only been open for two years and is one of the most breath-taking restaurants in the area. They serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and the restaurant also features a great bar where you can unwind on holiday with some great cocktails and a selection of upmarket drinks. I visited Rueben’s in Paternoster over the holiday season on a sunny afternoon for the lunch menu and was blown away by the high-class food, service and relaxing atmosphere.
The décor at Rueben’s is upmarket yet casual and the whole restaurant is very welcoming which is rare for a restaurant of this fine quality. The menu at Rueben’s changes consonantly so you never know what to expect on your next visit. They only use fresh, seasonable produce, keeping things interesting and tasty.
For lunch, I ordered the Line Fish of The Day which was a choice between Angel Fish or Yellow Tail served with Mediterranean vegetables in a delicious sauce that had an amazing complexity of flavours and kept evolving as I enjoyed my meal. What a stellar meal and something I will never forget! The fish was cooked to perfection and the portion, although beautifully presented, was generous and filling.
If you’re looking to get out of the hustle and bustle of Cape Town and enjoy some delicious food and seafood in a beautiful setting, then head to Paternoster and go straight to Rueben’s. I would also recommend booking in advance, especially for dinner and breakfast.
