Pizza zoom is a small and cozy restaurant cafe in downtown Rabat, just a few blocks from the Rabat Ville train station. It also happens to be on a street lined with other pizza places, creperies and shwarama restaurants. While the food at any of them is probably delicious and cheap, if you want a nicer setting that’s slightly farther away from traffic, it’s worth walking another minute to Pizza Zoom.
The setting is street side with a cute outdoor patio and a small indoor area for seating. Decor is pretty basic but has some covered outdoor seating with multicolored umbrellas and a small terraced garden. While we were there, it was windy enough to blow our napkins and soda off the table, so be careful.
As soon as you sit down, you are brought fresh bread, harisa sauce and a small amount of marinated olives. All were good but nothing to get excited about. The menu specializes in a mix and traditional Moroccan fare like tajines, kebabs and harira. Breakfast items like omelettes and crepes are also served all day. For starters, we ordered the pasta salad and the Moroccan salad, which was served on a bib of lettuce with tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumber, onions and cilantro. The pasta salad came with tuna, corn and some other vegetables. While it was tasty, it was a bit on the heavy side for a small salad, though I suppose getting more than you bargained for isn’t a bad thing.
For the main course, we went for the pizza as we figured by the name of the restaurant it would be the best thing on the menu. We ordered the large four cheese pizza, and once again was surprised at the size. It was huge and could easily feed four people. They didn’t skimp on the cheese at all, and it came loaded down with goat cheese, mozzarella, feta, and another cheese I wasn’t able to identify. While it had plenty of cheese, it was a tad bland. I usually don’t salt my food, but felt the pizza needed some to bring out some taste. However, the dough and crust were good and similar to a thin crust New York style but it didn’t have quite enough sauce. After being stuffed by the large portions, there was no way we could order dessert, but they do offer several tarts, fruit salads, flan, and cheesecake among a long list of choices if you still have room.
If you’re looking for some cheap and big portions while traveling from the train station or downtown, it would be hard to beat Pizza Zoom for a quick bite on your way into or out of the city.
