Amandine is a charming little bakery and tea room in the Gueliz district that has been serving up delicious treats since 1997. The design is definitely more typically French than Moroccan, and the inside makes you feel like you’ve been whisked away for a moment to the south of France.

Inside, there is a large wrap around display of cakes, small pastries, tarts, macarons, Moroccan cookies, and even pizza if you’re in the mood for it. We had fallen victim to our sweet tooths so pastries were on our mind. We ordered tea, quite a few different cookies, macarons, and a chocolate mousse. For macarons we tried the pistachio, framboise and pistachio, citron and reglesse, which was basically licorice. I didn’t know what it was at first but it still looked good. Neither of us were fans of licorice, but if you are, you’ll probably enjoy it. As for the mousse, it was extremely decadent and had a crunchy crumble at the bottom. Cookies were also delicious and most were flavored with floral scents and honey. The order also came with two cute gold foiled chocolates in the shape of hamsas.

After nibbling on the pastries for awhile, our tea arrived. We had the rose and orange tea, and it was brought out with a candle underneath to keep it warm and served in a clear exquisite glass. It was definitely quite the setup and made us feel a bit pampered. The tea had a delicate taste and you could really taste the citrus notes and rose, but not too overpowering.

Service was exceptionally friendly and prompt and inquired about our every need — definitely some of the best that I’ve experienced in Morocco. They made small conversation with us and were able to tell us detailed information about every item on the menu. We couldn’t finish everything we ordered, and got a cute little reusable purple bag and box to go.

Amandine suits lots of needs and is a great place to bring for a date, have tea time with kids, or just treat yourself for some delicious macarons.
