Pastis is situated on a dark, quiet road in Constantia, far away from the bustle of the city centre and perfect for a romantic meal. With candlelit tables and both a formal indoor and more relaxed outdoor dining areas, Pastis is one of the best places to get a great brasserie meal in the southern suburbs.
This upmarket eatery specializes in burgers, steaks and chef’s specials. When seated, you’re greeted with a complimentary basket of delicious sweet bread and butter for the table. Sharing bread before dinner is definitely a great way to begin a meal and it brings you back to classic restaurants from the past.
For starters, I thought I’d try the deep-fried Camembert with sweet berry coulis as I had a good feeling that it would be delicious. When the cubes of golden brown cheese arrived, I couldn’t wait to tuck in. The tenderness of the Camembert was excellent and the coulis was the perfect accompaniment.
For mains, I went with one of their many meat options and ordered the wiener schnitzel steak with green beans, carrot and chips. My schnitzel took up half of my plate and was tender, perfectly cooked and flavoursome. I do suggest ordering a sauce with your meal as it can be quite dry if it isn’t served with one. From their list of classic desserts and chef specials I chose the New York baked cheesecake. What an incredibly fluffy, decadent slice of heaven! Every bite was more delicious than the last, and the subtle vanilla taste was addictive. I would definitely recommend this dessert to anyone with a sweet tooth!
Pastis can get pretty busy, so make sure you book before visiting.
