I love Osumo in Canal Walk. In fact, when I’m looking for a healthy place to grab a delicious meal, you can’t beat it! Osumo is a small, health-focus restaurant located in Canal Walk and makes a great rival for the usual wraps and smoothies at Kauia. Osumo is great for breakfast or lunch and are open until 9PM in case you get a late night craving for something deliciously healthy.
Osumo specializes in wraps, salads, sandwiches and smoothies. They’ve been open since 2006 and the restaurant has a great, clean and modern décor that makes passers-by want to eat there. I decided to avoid my usual order and try something new at Osumo this time. I visited the store just before closing time, and I must say, they were as friendly and efficient as always, even though it was the holiday season and they were working late.
For mains, I ordered the warm Chicken, Butternut, Feta & Avo wrap which is something I’d never tried before. The wrap was absolutely delicious and made a great filling supper. The combination of butternut, feta and avo along with some great greens, was something I wasn’t expecting to be so tasty and really left me feeling energized and healthy.
Along with my wrap, I ordered the Tiger Chai smoothie which is just one of many smoothies, juices and protein shakes Osumo have on offer. The Tiger Chai is a great filling smoothie for fans of chai tea and banana. It’s thick, rich and oh, so delicious! There’s a smoothie for everyone at Osumo and you may even find something to give you that New Year’s boost you’ve been looking for. Osumo is a great alternative to other fast foods out there and I highly recommend you check them out the next time you visit Canal Walk!

I have seen a few Osumo branches around various shopping centres in Cape Town, but never thought to go in and try one. I’m not sure why. It looks nice, and its very bright colours and light interior certainly makes it look inviting and healthy. I think I just had a feeling it was one of those ‘pretend’ health places. I just always found places that seemed better.
Today, though, after a morning of shopping in Canal Walk, I decided to give it a go. After all, it is January and I am starting to feel the effect of a month of bad eating and drinking (typical December experience). So my husband and I took a quick break from shopping to sit and enjoy a meal. Situated in the midst of the busy shopping mall, I found some seats that didn’t have millions of people walking around us and I felt happy to sit and relax.
I was pleasantly surprised by the menu, which was much bigger than I thought, and offered so many delicious-sounding meals. With each meal you get the choice of wholewheat bread, rye bread, salad or a wrap. We were just about to have a wrap when we noticed the stir-fries. They sounded too good to ignore. I had the Butternut Boy which came with butternut, rice noodles, fresh avocado, Danish feta, rosa tomatoes, carrots, greens and a tangy dressing. I cannot even begin to explain how much I enjoyed it. So much so that I claimed I could easily have this for breakfast, lunch and dinner! I was very sad when it was over and I would definitely go back for more. My husband had the BBQ rump stir-fry which was excellent, but I thought mine was the winner of the day.
With that I had the delicious carrot, pineapple and orange juice which thankfully tasted predominantly of orange and was very refreshing. My husband had the carrot, orange, apple and wheatgrass juice which unfortunately tasted mostly of wheatgrass.
I think my menu choices won this round!
