Oblivion is a great spot in Claremont that offers plenty of space, a great menu, service with a smile and a fantastic upstairs balcony seating area that will make you feel like you’ve escaped to a distant land with an incredible view of the mountains.

Oblivion serves breakfast until 3pm which is a huge bonus for those late Saturday morning sleepers. I decided to try out their lunch menu and enjoy a lovely day on their upstairs balcony area. Although they were quite, it was an absolutely great dining experience and I would definitely recommend Oblivion to anyone looking for a great place to eat and chill out. For lunch, I ordered the Mexican Nachos with a double layer of nachos, cheddar cheese, spicy salsa, guacamole and crème fresh. When it arrived it was a huge portion that looked mouth-watering. It was full of flavour and would make a great dish to share amongst friends or with drinks.

I had to try their twice cooked chips because I’ve heard some good things and oh, was I pleasantly surprised! Oblivion serves some of the best crispy, chunky chips of perfect that I have ever tasted in Cape Town. It comes with a side of sweet chilli mayo and the combination will have you going back for more, even when you’re full. Seriously, I couldn’t stop munching on these chips, and there were even leftovers to take home – that was how big the portion was!
For dessert, I tried the Oblivion Orgasm and although it’s a little bit embarrassing to order, it was incredible. Decadent homemade hot chocolate fondant with dark Belgian chocolate and vanilla ice cream – just take a look at the photo to see what I mean!

The service at Oblivion was pleasant and I felt very welcome and at home. All in all, I would definitely recommend Oblivion and I can’t wait to go back!
