The Mugg & Bean has been around for more than a decade now, and while it is South African franchised restaurant chain at this point with multiple locations around Cape Town, I still enjoy eating breakfast here. I also like the views from the Waterfront location. Since I usually visit at breakfast, for this trip I decided to go for lunch after doing some Christmas shopping. I sat outside, facing the harbor, and tried their Asian chicken wrap with a side of chunky fries. While not terrible, I wouldn’t say it was particularly memorable either, and in the future I’ll stick to ordering breakfast. If you do come for lunch, however, they also serve a variety of salads, burgers, toasted sandwiches and even quesadillas.
For the first meal of the day I recommend the Eggs Benedict, which comes in three flavors – classic (with ham), vegetarian (with mushrooms, creamed spinach, grilled tomato and arugula) or my person favorite the salmon (I like to order it with a side of avocado and fresh tomato). If poached eggs, hollandaise and English Muffins aren’t up your breakfast alley, there are plenty of other options. This includes eggs cooked anyway you want them, and a long list of scramble and omelette choices.
The Mugg & Bean considers itself a “coffee themed restaurant” and as such the morning caffeine staple is served in more than half a dozen ways. There is the bottomless cup of coffee, espresso shots, multiple styles of cappuccinos and decadent iced concoctions that are essentially coffee milkshakes. There are also plenty of smoothies to choose from as well as a cocktail list.
