I like Mugg & Bean because although it’s not fine dining, you’re always assured of consistency no matter which branch you pop into. The menu, service and atmosphere are the same across the country, so there are no surprises if you just want to grab a filling lunch or a quick coffee.
The branch at Gold Reef City is no exception. It’s probably the most upscale dining option at this middle-of-the-road theme park, where food options tend to run from popcorn kiosks to fast food joints.
The location is ideal too – right in the middle of the park, so when you’re tired after exploring the first half, you can revive here and get sustenance for the second half. And the fact that it’s right next to the park’ main stage means you may just be treated to an 20-min song-and-dance show while you eat. Free entertainment!
As for the food, it’s solid and hearty, such as the baked chicken macaroni and cheese I had, and the fantastic berry smoothie (served in a mason jar). My friend had The 20-page menu encompasses so much more though, from filled croissants, wraps, sandwiches, pot pies, soups, burgers, ribs, steaks, tacos and more. The couple sitting next to me were having a Belgian waffle which made me very envious, but I was far too full from my mac&cheese to consider it.
Mugg’s kid’s menu is also popular, considering the under-18 set is the main demographic of Gold Reef City, so no need to avoid the restaurant if you’ve got tykes with you. Kids can munch on chicken nuggets and fried while parents sip a cappuccino or chai steamer.
