I’m a big mischu fan and have been lucky enough to spend some time with the owner, Mikhael. His story is very interesting, and his journey into the coffee world was rather unexpected. When he moved to South Africa he started applying for jobs. He ticked ‘Barista’ on the application form, thinking it had something to do with alcohol (due to the ‘bar’ of barista). He got the job and suddenly found himself learning about coffee. He realised he had found his calling, landed up staying in Cape Town and opening up his own coffee shop called mischu.
Lucky for us, because the coffee shop is heavenly, and the coffee is of a very high quality. He uses his own blend of beans called ‘Isabella’ which is named after his daughter and in the short amount of time he’s been open he has already won a good few awards. The shop is lovely and you can enjoy a variety of cakes and pastries to go with your coffee.
It’s obvious that this is a guy that loves his coffee, and his passion runs deep into everything he does. He also offers half and full day coffee workshops for both home users and barista’s which is very informative. I was lucky enough to attend a full day course and since then I can never look at coffee in the same way. I feel appreciative for every cup that I drink and I’m now super aware of how much goes into making the perfect cup. I take my hat off to the baristas who have to make faultless cups throughout the day. It’s certainly not as easy as it looks.
This is fine coffee at its best!
