Melissa’s is fast becoming a place with a bad reputation for service. I once went there for a simple cappuccino with my husband and we waited so long and asked about three times where our coffee was that we eventually walked out. Today I was in the area and thought it would be nice to get some take away. They do have delicious and very healthy food on offer which is what always draws me to the place. In the centre they always have a big wooden table with either breakfast or lunch depending on when you go. You don’t have to choose this but if you do go for the breakfast you pay R16 per 100g or R19 per 100g if you go for the lunch or dinner. My only issue with this was today I noticed nothing was covered and I personally wouldn’t want food that flies had eaten from before me. Just a small thing that they could change that would make the world of difference.

I ordered one of their spinach and feta muffins which I warmed up when I got home and I really enjoyed it. With that I decided to try the cheese, tomato and bacon jam on toasted brown bread. It was the bacon jam that got me. I couldn’t resist. It was great. I even bought a bottle to take home.

Would I go again though? Probably not. I think their food is lovely and all their shops are always so beautifully decorated. It’s a very cute and quirky looking place. But their food is slightly overpriced, which I normally wouldn’t mind so much. I think it’s more to do with their service. I waited so long for everything and while I was waiting I heard at least five different people complain about the same thing. They have tons of waiters so I’m not sure what the problem is. If they changed this I would definitely return.
