Martin’s Bakery is definitely Plumstead’s most precious hidden treasure. Not only do they serve a great breakfast and lunch menu, they’re also a fantastic bakery that sells a variety of delicious goods as well as some hard-to-find dietary items that are sure to have you saying “I can’t believe I could be buying this right here in Plumstead all this time!” Martin’s has a great inside eating area and a small balcony and smoking section that’s the best place to enjoy breakfast on the Main Road, guaranteed! The deli offers a Meal of The Day that seems to be a popular favourite for the regulars and also offers great value for money. Martin’s Original Pies and gourmet sandwiches look like great lunch options and there are plenty of gluten-free and even banting-friendly options to eat or take home.
Martin’s serves breakfast all day which is a rare thing to find in Cape Town. I took advantage of a past noon breakfast and ordered the Eggs Benedict. Two poached eggs and bacon served on a potato rosti or flapjack with hollandaise sauce – what could be better! My breakfast was absolutely delicious. A wonderful hollandaise with perfectly poached eggs and a thin, tasty potato rosti that was different and full of flavour.
For dessert, I had to try the French Toast Stack with bacon, farmhouse jam, cheese and maple syrup. My mouth was watering for it before it even arrived, and when it did, I was impressed! It was the perfect thick French Toast that makes for a wonderful breakfast or dessert, depending on what you’re in the mood for. I finished my meal with a mixed fruit smoothie with yoghurt, but you can also choose to have it with ice cream. Yum, yum, yum! I can’t wait to go back for another delicious meal at Martin’s! You got to try it!
