Spur is a great family steakhouse that offers value for money, a wide variety of grills and desserts and a great place to take the kids. Wherever you go in South Africa, there’s bound to be a Spur nearby, but I’d never been to the Little Creek Spur in Tokai so I decided to try it out for the first time. I went there on a Sunday evening and found the restaurant was quite busy with a lot of families out to dinner. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and this specific spur has a great outdoor jungle gym for kids to play in while they wait for their meals. Come hungry because Spur serves big portions of tasty South African favourites and no matter how full you are, you’re going to want to get dessert!

I started my meal with the starter portion of mild Nachos Mexicana. This is a great dish to share with a friend and comes with zippy salsa, melted cheese, chunky cottage cheese and guacamole. Although they definitely aren’t the best nachos I’ve ever tasted, they are tasty and simple.

For mains, I enjoyed a 300g Cheddarmelt Steak served with chips and onion rings. My steak was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the sauce was tasty and rich. I thoroughly enjoyed my steak and found it great value for money.

Then I ordered the Tempting Twists Homemade Waffle with toffee fudge sauce and sliced banana. You can’t go wrong with a waffle at Spur, in fact, that’s why most people go there! Spur have fantastic weeknight specials and serve up some great burgers and grills. They also have a salad bar where you can dish up a plate of healthy greens to go along with your steak or burger.
