I was very excited to try out La Belle, part of the Alphen Boutique Hotel and set amongst the beautiful surroundings of Constantia. Constantia is one of my favourite places to visit, especially in the summer time when the grass is green and the view goes on forever. I had heard great things about the Alphen Boutique Hotel and decided to book a table for ten to have my friends Christmas party. Booking a big table is always a great indication of a place, because it is so easy to mess up when there are more people. However, nothing went wrong that day and I honestly cannot fault the place.
We were very lucky with the weather. A beautiful Summer’s day that really showed off Cape Town. Not even a gust of wind in sight, which is very unusual. We had a lovely table outside so I was grateful for the weather, however there is indoor seating options available too. I started off with some red wine and chose the Kove Merlot which was absolutely delicious. I decided to skip the starters because they were a bit on the pricey side (okay so there’s the fault) but went straight to the mains. I ordered the Tuna Steak which came with spinach, new potatoes and sauce vierge (a slightly vinaigrette sauce). There was lots of tomato as well which complimented the meal beautifully. It’s not something I normally order and I absolutely loved it. Everybody raved about their food but the overall winner was the Sirloin Forrester, a delicious steak with mash, roast tomatoes, bacon and mushroom sauce. Everyone else said they wanted to come back and order that. Afterwards we went inside to look at the desserts on display. I chose a red velvet cupcake to share with my husband and a cup of coffee. It was moist and decadent and oh so moreish.
La Belle is an absolutely beautiful place and shows off Cape Town at its very best. I will gladly go back over and over again.
